Jumping rope is an effective way to burn calories and ultimately lose weight. Jump ropes are so simple that you can use them pretty much anywhere. The hard part, however, is selecting the best jump rope for you. There are so many different brands and types of ropes, all of which vary in quality and function. You may recognize EverLast as one of the top brands for boxing equipment like heavy bags and speed bags. Fortunately, they are also one of the best jump rope brands. The following will be an EverLast leather jump rope review where we compare the unweighted and weighted models.

Key Features Of Both Models

There is not much difference between the models besides the fact that one is weighted and one is not. The following features are standard for all EverLast jump ropes.

Genuine Leather Rope – That’s right, there’s no synthetic material used for these ropes. You are guaranteed 100% genuine leather that will definitely stand the test of time.

Polished, solid wood handles – Unlike a lot of jump ropes, these ropes feature solid wood handles that fit comfortably in your hands. You no longer have to worry about cheap plastic handles breaking or cracking. The handles are contoured for comfort and effectiveness.

Ball-Bearings – The handles are implemented with ball-bearings for extra speed. These bearings ensure that you can train at whatever speed you would like. Without them, it would be very difficult to continuously skip the rope.

One Year Warranty – Although quality is generally not a concern with EverLast jump ropes, they offer a one year warranty on both of their models. With that being said, you don’t have to worry about being gentle with this jump rope. If something happens with the handles or rope, you can simply exchange it free of charge for up to a year.

Comparing Non-Weighted vs. Weighted Model

EverLast leather jump ropes come in non-weighted vs. weighted models. In terms of appearance, both models are nearly identical. The difference comes in the wooden handles which vary in weight.

Non-Weighted: Very light and needs more breaking in compared to the weighted model. This is a very high-quality rope that will last a long time regardless of how frequently you use it. In terms of price, this one is less expensive than the weighted option, but it might not be the best for an experienced individual. Because this rope has no additional weight, this is not a speed rope by any means. On the other hand, this is a perfect rope for beginners or people who like to keep it slow and steady.

Weighted: It’s hard not to be biased in this EverLast leather jump rope review, but I can honestly say this is one of my personal favorites. This rope has the same good quality as the other model, but it is slightly heavier. The added weight allows you to skip rope at whatever speed you like. Compared to the non-weighted model, the handles here are slightly more contoured but also more comfortable. The handles are where the extra weight is coming from, so of course, they will be denser. This is a great option for experienced jump-ropers or beginners looking for more versatility.

My Recommendation

Of course, I have to side with the weighted EverLast jump rope. Compared to the non-weighted model, this rope is much better quality and is more versatile. If you’re accustomed to jumping rope for speed, then this is a great choice. The same can be said if you’re a beginner who’s new to jump rope workouts.

Needless to say, the non-weighted option is also a good choice, but it’s missing the all-in-one functionality. The weighted model, on the other hand, can easily be used as a speed rope. If the price is an issue, I recommend going with the cheaper non-weighted rope. Otherwise, I definitely suggest the weighted rope.

Cons

Every product is bound to have some cons, and the EverLast leather jump rope is no exception. These cons apply to both models, although they are not necessarily a big deal.

Stiffness of the leather: When you buy one of these jump ropes, you can initially expect the leather to be quite stiff. This is not a permanent issue because the leather will soften up after a couple of uses. Generally, the weighted model will break-in faster than the unweighted because there is additional mass pulling on the leather. To quickly break in these jump ropes, you can attach light weights to both handles.

Minimal Adjustability: Unlike some ropes where you can adjust them to any length, EverLast only comes in two sizes. There is an 8 feet and 9.5 feet option, so you should know what size suits you before purchasing. Although you can adjust the ropes by removing the handles, this is not recommended because of the ball-bearings. To figure out which size is right for you, you can follow the jump rope sizing guidelines below.

Guidelines:

4’11” – 5’3″: 8 feet rope

5’4″ – 5’9″: 9 feet rope (9.5 in this case)

5’10” – 6’4″: 9.5 – 10 feet rope

If you’re in the 5’4″-5’9″ range, you can choose between the 8 or 9.5 feet option. I’ve found that the 8 feet option is fine unless you’re on the higher end of this range.

Also, if you’re above 6’4″, you might want to choose a different jump rope brand. Unfortunately, the 9.5′ size is the largest that EverLast makes, but you should have no problem finding an alternative.

Closing Remarks

Throughout this EverLast leather jump rope review, I have thoroughly described both available models. EverLast has been a staple brand for boxing and fitness related products for decades. The products they sell are all of high quality, and their skipping ropes are no different.

Everyone can benefit from jumping rope regardless of your current fitness level. They can be used nearly anywhere, and are perfect for those who train at home. If you happen to be adding to your home gym equipment, I suggest also checking out the TRX suspension trainer.
